WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Lash extensions are semi-permanent fibers which are professionally applied strand by strand to your individual natural lashes with a medical grade adhesive. They can last 2-3+ weeks depending on your natural shedding and retention. They have become very popular in the beauty industry because of the enhancement to your natural facial features as well as the boost of confidence you feel. You can ditch your mascara and wake up feeling beautiful, saving you time and money in your morning and night routine.
DO LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL LASHES?
Simply put; no, extensions alone will not cause damage to your natural lashes. Improper placement (lash technician error) or rubbing/picking at your extensions can cause damage if the hair follicle is excessively stressed. As long as the aftercare instructions are followed and your technician uses proper technique, your natural lashes will be fine.
WHAT TYPES OF LASHES CAN I GET?
There are several different styles and types of lash extensions. Shades of Beauty Studio offers Classic, Hybrid, Volume, and Mega Volume lashes with add-ons including wispy, color (pop of color or brown lashes), and the wet lash look. Each type varies in fullness from very natural (classic) to very full, dark, dense and fluffy (volume & mega volume).

There are also differences in style such as the cat eye or doll eye styles. Depending on your desired look and your eye shape, different styles will enhance your features better.

At the beginning of your appointment, your technician will go over your desired look, length, style, and length so that you leave feeling beautiful with extensions customized just for you!
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
Depending on the type of set, a full set can take up to 3 hours. A good lash technician will take their time to make sure the lashes are being properly applied. This may seem long, but the whole process is very comfortable and relaxing. You can use it as an excuse to lie down, relax, get a nap in, and take a break from daily life. Most clients fall asleep and the time goes by faster than you think. Two to three week Fill-ins are maintenance appointments to remove outgrown lashes and replace them with fresh extensions. This can take up to 1-1.5 hours.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
Every client's natural growth rate and retention is different. Because extensions are attached to each individual natural lash, they last as long as the natural growth cycle. With good aftercare and retention, your lashes should last you 2-4 weeks (before they look like they need a fill-in) or even longer.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY LASHES?
There are several before and aftercare instructions to care for your lash extensions. You can find more in-depth information here:

To name a few:
-
Do not get extensions wet for the first 24 hours unless otherwise instructed by your technician.
-
After 24 hours, wash your extensions EVERY DAY with our recommended Foaming Lash Bath Shampoo and washing brush.
-
Avoid oil-based products (makeup, lotion, face wash, sunscreen, etc)
-
Treat your new lashes with TLC: do not curl them, put on mascara, or rub your eyes
-
Brush lashes regularly with spoolie to style and keep them fluffy
-
Do NOT pick or pull at lashes
-
Have them professionally removed ONLY
-
Schedule regular fill-ins to maintain extensions and prevent natural lash breakage from outgrown lashes
CAN I WEAR MASCARA OR MAKEUP IN GENERAL?
It is not recommended to wear mascara because it is hard to get off and will affect your extensions. You can carefully wear mascara on your lower lashes.

You can also wear makeup, including eye makeup as long as its oil-free (oil breaks down the glue and affects retention). You may notice that if you wear heavier makeup consistently that your lashes do not last as long.

Wearing as much oil-free product as possible and washing your lash extensions daily will help you avoid additional build up and boost lash retention.
CAN I GET THEM WET? CAN I SWIM IN THE POOL OR OCEAN WITH THEM?
Yes! Many clients like to get extensions before vacation. The salty ocean and chemical filled pool may affect your lashes so swim at your own discretion. However, many clients have no problems as long as they wash their lashes consistently after getting them wet.
HOW DO I WASH MY FACE AND MY LASHES?
You can wash your face as normal just gently apply and wash around your eyes and lashes.

At your appointment, we will explain how to wash your lashes as we wash them for you. At home, you will use our Foaming Lash Bath Shampoo and washing brush to gently wash one eye at a time. Gently scrub the lash line in a straight or circular motion. Rinse with water and gently pat or fan dry. Make sure you let them dry and then BRUSH them back out so they are full and fluffy again!
WHY ARE MY EYES ITCHY, RED, OR SWOLLEN?
Overly itchy or swollen eyes can indicate that you are more sensitive to the adhesive or possibly allergic and you should consult your lash technician. If you have never had extensions before and tend to be more sensitive, you can schedule a patch test with us where we apply a few short extensions to blend in with your natural lashes to see if you have any sensitivities.
WHY ARE 2-3 WEEK FILL INS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN MY LASHES?
On average, we have 90-150+ natural lashes on each eye. Each natural lash is on its OWN 4-6 week growth cycle. When your technician applies extensions to the natural lash, we apply it at least .5-1 mm away from the base of the eyelid. As each natural lash grows out, the extension grows out with it. Around 2-3 weeks, the overgrown extensions may either naturally fall out with or without the natural lash or stay on the natural lash causing them to twist and turn. If it is not removed, it can break the natural lash or stress the hair follicle. At the same time, you will have new growth so keeping regular fill-in appointments will maintain your set and keep your natural lashes safe.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY LASHES ARE FULL ENOUGH FOR A FILL IN OR IF I NEED TO SCHEDULE A FULL SET?
You should have at least 40-50% of your lashes remaining to be considered a fill in appointment. If majority of your lashes are grown out or if you have several gaps, it is not considered a maintenance appointment and will be a full set. One way to tell is to look at each eye in the mirror facing downward. You'll be able to see gaps or grown out lashes. Please see below for examples of what is and is not a fill-in.

WHY DON'T YOU OFFER FOREIGN FILLS?
Shades of Beauty Studio no longer accepts fill in appointments for existing lashes from other lash techs for several reasons. There is no way to know what products or techniques were used for the existing set. Unfortunately, there are many instances of poor application. Examples of poor application include improper lengths or styles for clients natural lashes and poor isolation leading to lashes being stuck together which can be painful and damaging. Because of this, we require you to book a removal and to start fresh with a full set that way we can insure proper technique and application with customized lashes just for you!
